Are you getting valid, primary email addresses from everyone who calls your agency? If not, you’re neglecting the most effective and efficient way to maintain contact with customers, even with the spiking popularity of social networks – and in some cases, providing the only reasonable way to deal with a major agency undertaking.

Take the scenario confronted by Brian Marino, the incoming President of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) and owner of Family Insurance Services in Florida. Because a carrier was pulling out of his region, Mr. Marino’s agency needed to rewrite 750 policies in thirty days, a colossal project under any circumstances. By getting the quotes and using an email campaign to prompt customers, the agency was able to rewrite 100 policies in four days and ultimately finish the project stronger then when they started.

Summing up the importance of email to completing this task, Mr. Marino says, "It’s the only efficient way we can communicate with our clients, and it’s a great message for them as well."

Of course, without a list of email addresses, the aforementioned project would have taken twice as long and probably garnered less of a return. But there are some things to remember when building an email database. First, getting the primary email address is extremely important, as people tend to have more than one. Also, letting them know what you will be sending will enhance the chances of receiving a more regularly used address.

Besides cost-effectiveness, the biggest benefit of email communication and marketing is the ability to track results. Direct mailers often get tossed in the trash without a glance. Email may get the same treatment, but we can actually see what percentage opened the email, how many discarded and of course, and how many people responded. These are vital statistics as we gauge the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

Furthermore, when you send an email, it often goes straight to people’s phones, enabling direct communication in real time, no matter where they are.

The most recent National Underwriter "Serving the Modern Consumer" video features interviews with Brian Marino as well as Krystle McEachron of ISU Armac and Rex Caton of Caton-Hosey Insurance discussing their strategies for email gathering.

Whether you’re considering email marketing as a time-saver, money-saver, conversation starter, or all of the above, GETTING the emails should be of utmost priority in today’s insurance marketplace. The next step is finding a place to store them and a system to initiate conversations that spark new business, and that’s where Astonish Results can help.
